Financing for the screen version of The Widow was affected by the banking crisis. Rather than put the story away, Merlin Ward rewrote it for the stage. It has been professionally produced in Eastbourne & Croydon; with amateur productions in Garland City, Texas, USA; and at Kilkenny College, Ireland.
